George Russell: “It’s a bonus to be on the podium”
A surprise guest on the podium in Baku, George Russell finished third in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, pocketing valuable points for the British team.

George Russell, solid throughout the weekend, materialized by finishing in third place in the race. After the crash between Sergio Perez’s Red Bull and Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari, towards the end of the race, the Mercedes driver was able to sneak through and reach the podium in the final moments.
After the race, George Russell expressed his surprise at being on the podium. « I am very surprised, happy to see Checo and Carlos are doing well. I think there has been so much hard work from the whole team, engine changes on my side, engine changes for Lewis, so many things have happened and everyone was working so hard. »
He then returned to his race. « We had a very bad start to the race and I was losing a lot of ground, but with the hard tires, I think we were among the fastest, so it was great, I passed Max, it’s an additional bonus to be on the podium. »
Mercedes continues to improve its performance, both cars are in the top 10. Lewis Hamilton, despite his penalty for an engine change, finished in ninth place. The British team is still in fourth place in the constructors’ championship.
