Charles Leclerc announces the color to Red Bull and McLaren for the end of the season, everything is still possible

The Monegasque has just achieved four consecutive podium finishes after finishing second in Baku. This will give him confidence as well as Ferrari. With seven more weekends to go, Leclerc says that everything is still possible.

The suspense is palpable at the end of this season. With seven rounds remaining before the championship ends, the identity of the future drivers’ champion as well as that of the constructors is far from being known. Last weekend in Azerbaijan, McLaren took the lead in the team standings by overtaking Red Bull, the Austrian team currently going through a difficult period. This gives hope to its opponents, starting with the team in top form at the moment: Ferrari. Since the end of the summer break, the Italian team, thanks to its driver Charles Leclerc, has not left the podium and even secured a victory on home soil in Monza, as well as a second place in Baku.

Leclerc thinks that Ferrari can win the constructor’s championship.

Results that bring him 88 points closer to leader Max Verstappen and 29 points behind Lando Norris. Although the task ahead looks challenging, Leclerc is optimistic about his chances at the end of the season, even though he believes that the constructors’ championship is more achievable than the drivers’. “There is certainly an opportunity, but I think that, realistically, to win the drivers’ championship, we will need not only a performance gain, but probably also a bit of luck. For the constructors, everything is still possible because I think there is about a 40-point gap, and with two drivers in a team, it is doable. We have our chances and objectives that we will set for ourselves,” he revealed to the media, including RacingNews365.

Good performances to confirm in the upcoming races

After its performance in Baku (which could have been even better without Carlos Sainz’s retirement), the Maranello team has 425 points and ranks third among the constructors, just 51 points behind the first position held by McLaren. However, the Monegasque driver is aware that the team must not rely on its pace in the final races and must continue to work in a season marked by numerous variations in performance between each team. Red Bull, for example, had started the season in an idyllic manner before dropping in the hierarchy, now being unable to win a race. Ferrari, on the other hand, had a good start to the season before going through several tough weeks after its victory in Monaco, finally regaining performance since the return from the summer break.

With this new generation of cars, we have seen a lot of ups and downs among different teams, and it is very difficult to find a consistent momentum and have a linear progression with improvements. Mercedes and we find gains, but sometimes we have bad surprises. McLaren is probably the strongest in the last eight or nine races – and Red Bull has been solid, even if [the Italian Grand Prix was a bad surprise for them] ». Hence, optimizing settings during each weekend appears to be the essential element, especially for the top three teams in the standings, who must maximize their results at the risk of seeing the title slip away for one of them.

« Here is the hierarchy: McLaren in the lead, Red Bull second, then Mercedes and us, who need to find a bit more consistency,” added the Monegasque. « Before thinking about a title, we need to improve our car to be constantly in the fight with the top teams, not just for one race where they didn’t optimize their package ». Everything still seems possible at the end of this season, and every point will be crucial in the title race, a fight that now involves three teams with Ferrari increasingly in form, especially as the Italian team is heading to circuits where they have excelled in the past, such as Singapore where Sainz allowed Ferrari to secure its only victory of the season last year.

The weather conditions of some Grand Prix races, such as in Brazil with its very heavy rains or Qatar with its unbearable heat, will also be a factor to consider. With seven races remaining, the end of the championship is shaping up to be exciting with several drivers and teams still in the running for the titles. As the Monegasque revealed, everything is still possible at the end of this season.
