Lando Norris dominated the Singapore Grand Prix from start to finish. After securing the pole position, he got off to a good start and quickly built a substantial lead over his rivals. Despite two close calls with the wall that briefly threatened his lead and slightly damaged his front wing, the McLaren driver kept his cool and composure. He crossed the finish line with a 21-second lead over Verstappen. This victory reduces the gap in the championship to 52 points with the Red Bull driver with six races remaining, keeping Lando Norris’ title hopes alive.
In his post-race interview, Norris reflected on his dominant performance. “It was an incredible race,” said the British driver. “A few close calls too. I had a few small moments during the race, but I think it was well controlled, otherwise and the car, the car was great so I could attack, we dominated throughout the race and in the end, I could just relax. It was a nice race, but I’m a bit out of breath.”
Interviewed about his close encounters with the barriers, Norris explained, “I mean, it’s not necessarily that you’re overdoing it, sometimes, it may be that you’re too relaxed. Maybe it was a bit of both, I don’t know what it is but it’s delicate. You know, it’s always tough to block the tires like I did. So I didn’t want to have a second lead, so it was a lot of fun, a maximum of points, it’s nice to have. Oscar is also on the podium. He drove well today, so a good day for the team as well.”
Norris also compared the physical demands of the race to his previous experiences, « Like in Qatar last year. But I mean, I wasn’t, I wasn’t taking it easy. I could have gone much slower. So, yes, I’m a little dizzy right now but everything is fine. » he concluded.
