For Franco Colapinto, driving in F1 in 2025 would be “a dream come true”
The Argentine, who replaced Logan Sargeant since the Italian Grand Prix, is delivering performances that are more than interesting to the point of being considered for the next starting grid at Audi. A dream opportunity, but one he's trying not to think about too much for now in order to not put too much pressure on himself.
In just three races, Franco Colapinto silenced his critics. After being confirmed as Logan Sargeant’s replacement at Williams for the rest of the season, many fans had expressed doubts, judging that the Argentine was not fast enough or ready for Formula 1. Some preferred to see Liam Lawson or Mick Schumacher take this seat. However, Colapinto quickly adapted, scoring points in his second Grand Prix with an eighth place in Baku and competing with Alexander Albon in Singapore, despite the fact that his teammate had the latest upgrades on the car.
Finally, he finished eleventh on the Marina Bay circuit, less than two seconds behind Sergio Perez’s tenth place. His performances continue to surprise, to the point that rumors announce him at Sauber for next year, the team has still not confirmed its second driver for 2025.
Despite the rumors, Colapinto remains focused on his performances with Williams.
Asked about the possibility of joining Sauber next year, Colapinto remained cautious. Aware that his adventure with Williams will not continue in 2025 – the team having already confirmed Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz for next season – the Argentinian stated that he was staying focused on the present. He explained that he simply wanted to finish the season on a positive note with Williams. Regarding the rumors, he added: “I don’t really think about it. I haven’t followed the news much, to be honest. I am currently with Williams, and I think we are doing very good work together. My goal is to finish this year on a high, to continue learning. I still have a lot to learn, and then we will see what I can do next year.”
Colapinto at Audi in 2025?
Optimism is therefore the order of the day for the former MP Motorsport driver. Although recent information suggests that Sauber could retain Valtteri Bottas for 2025, Colapinto has expressed his dream of completing a full season in Formula 1 next year. However, he already says he is very grateful to Williams and James Vowles for the opportunity that has been offered to him, and wants to thank them by continuing to perform well with the car, which seems to be increasingly competitive. “I am not focusing on 2025, I am only focusing on the incredible opportunity I had thanks to James and Williams, and we work very well together,” he told the media, including RacingNews365. “We are making progress, and I think this is the way forward.”

With two drivers capable of fighting in the middle of the pack, Williams’ end of the season could take a very positive turn. As for Colapinto, he could see his dream come true if he continues on this path. James Vowles, the boss of Williams, even announced that he would do everything to convince Audi to hire him for 2025. So it seems that Colapinto’s career in Formula 1 is far from over.
