The news was expected, it came out this Thursday. Racing Bulls has decided to part ways with Daniel Ricciardo for the end of the 2024 season. The Australian had taken over from Nyck de Vries in the middle of last season for his return to F1 as a full-time driver.

Everyone at VCARB would like to thank Daniel for his hard work over the past two seasons with us… Daniel has been a true gentleman on and off the track and never without his smile. We will miss him but he will always have his place here in the Red Bull family,” said Laurent Mekies, team principal.

« He brought a lot of experience and talent to the team with a fantastic attitude, which helped everyone to develop and foster a strong team spirit.” added the Frenchman. The Austrian team quickly announced that Ricciardo was being replaced by New Zealander Liam Lawson.

Ricciardo’s farewell to F1

This end of adventure sounds like the curtain call of driver number 3 in Formula 1. Aged 35, the native of Perth started his career in 2009 under the colors of HRT. Having been through Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Renault, McLaren, and AlphaTauri, Ricciardo has achieved 32 podiums in his career for 8 victories.

The Australian shared this message on Instagram: “I have loved this sport all my life. It is a wild and wonderful sport, a real journey.”

To the teams and individuals who played their part, thank you. To the fans who love this sport sometimes more than I do, thank you. There will always be ups and downs, but we had a great time and, to be honest, I wouldn’t change a thing. Until the next adventure.

The end of an adventure in F1, really?

If Daniel Ricciardo indeed seemed to bid farewell to F1 in front of microphones and TVs around the world on Sunday evening, it turns out that a rumor announcing Sergio Perez’s retirement could give the Australian the opportunity to return to a seat soon. To be continued.
