Sergio Perez denies rumors about his retirement at the end of the season, in a humorous way
The Mexican reacted in a humorous way this Sunday on social media regarding the rumors about his potential retirement at the end of this season. Even though he has not officially admitted it, the Mexican is convinced that he will keep his place at Red Bull next year.

Mexican supporters can breathe. For several days, there have been many speculations about the former Racing Point driver, regarding a potential retirement after another disappointing Grand Prix in Singapore, finishing a distant tenth place after a difficult qualifying session that concluded in thirteenth place. These insufficient results had fueled these rumors. Some even suggested that he would announce it during the Mexican Grand Prix, in front of his fans, even though he had signed a one-year contract extension (with an additional year option) during the Canadian Grand Prix.
Unconvincing results in 2024
Nevertheless, his recent results have harmed Red Bull’s success, especially as the car no longer really delivers the expected performance. This situation relegates the Austrian team to the second team on the grid, behind McLaren, due to Sergio Pérez’s lack of form this season. The Mexican driver has only achieved four podium finishes this season, compared to 11 for his Dutch teammate. Overtaken last weekend in the drivers’ standings, the former McLaren driver is only in eighth place in the championship, 187 points behind Max Verstappen. An untenable situation for Red Bull, which sees the constructors’ title drifting further away. Consequently, numerous speculations have emerged on social media, claiming that the Mexican driver would retire at the end of the season. This information was quickly picked up by the main protagonist, who denied it in a humorous manner.
Perez’s humorous response to these departure rumors
Indeed, instead of explaining in a structured way that he will still be there next year, the Mexican preferred to post on his Twitter account (X) an excerpt from Martin Scorsese’s movie The Wolf of Wall Street, in which Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, tells employees that he will not be leaving the company after all. Below this post, he simply replied with a « sorry » followed by several emojis, thus denying the rumors that have recently circulated about him.

However, Red Bull has already shown in the past that some contracts could be terminated (Gasly in 2019 or, more recently, Ricciardo with Racing Bulls), and the recent performances of the Mexican could force the Milton Keynes team to part ways with him if these results do not improve and if he does not enable Red Bull to win world titles. With six Grand Prix races left, the Mexican driver must perform well, at the risk of seeing these rumors turn into news.
