Pierre Gasly: “We have struggled a lot to score points this season”
Alpine distinguished itself during the Grand Prix of São Paulo race, with its two drivers on the podium. After the race, Pierre Gasly commented on the French team's challenging season and congratulated himself on this third place.
« We suffered a lot », remembers Pierre Gasly about this season 2024. Alpine had a great weekend, if not the best this year. It had been 27 years since two French drivers had stood together on a podium. The last time it happened was in 1997 with Olivier Panis and Jean Alesi.
Pierre Gasly, who started from 13th place in qualifying, managed to make an exceptional comeback to finish in third place at the Interlagos circuit. It’s incredible for the entire team. We struggled a lot to score points this season. Two cars on the podium, no one could have imagined that. This morning, the qualifiers were bad. I am proud of the team, coming back after a tough season. Everyone must be proud today, says the native of Rouen.
He reflected on his race performance: « Yesterday the pace was good in the dry, this morning I really had a bad qualifying, I started far back, it was incredible to gain so many positions. I am so proud of the team, to come back after such a difficult season, it would have been easy to give up, but we never give up. »
Alpine is in sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship, a victory for the team that has done everything to come back to the level after a difficult season.
