Engines and gearboxes: Alpine and Mercedes formalize their merger for 2026
Alpine has confirmed, in a statement, that the team will use a Mercedes engine and gearbox in 2026, for the next regulations.

It was expected. It is now official. After weeks of speculation about the future Alpine engine in Formula 1, the team has finally given its answer. While the French brand has indicated that it will no longer produce its engines for the next regulation, a solution had to be found to fill the gap.
On Tuesday, November 12, Alpine announced that Mercedes had been chosen to power the blue cars for the upcoming regulations. An announcement that doesn’t come as a surprise since many rumors had mentioned the name of the German manufacturer.
Until 2030 at least
« BWT Alpine Formula One Team, Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains and Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix have reached agreements on power units and gearboxes starting from the beginning of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship 2026 », reads a rather short statement.
The partnership between the two brands will take effect in 2026, as planned. The link between the two teams will run until 2030, at least. Alpine assured, « The team remains focused on achieving the best possible performances during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.”
