Carlos Sainz: “It would be painful ” if Ferrari were fighting for the title in 2025
Carlos Sainz, who will be leaving the Italian team at the end of the season, has admitted that he would be disappointed if Ferrari won a drivers' title after his departure.

The arrival of Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari in 2025 pushed Carlos Sainz towards the exit, and the latter has since signed with Williams. This also means that Lewis Hamilton could hope to win an eighth Formula 1 championship, setting an absolute record, with Ferrari, which is in search of a title since Kimi Räikkönen’s in 2007.
Carlos Sainz, who contributed to laying the foundations for Ferrari’s return to victory in Grand Prix, doesn’t want to miss this opportunity. “I am a driver who likes to invest in development, live in Maranello to help the team progress,” he told Sky Sports. “When I arrived at Ferrari in 2021, my goal was to win a championship. We could achieve it this year in the constructors’ championship.”
« It would be even more painful if, next year, they were fighting for the drivers’ title, he hammered home. The Spanish driver discussed the work he has done with the team and regrets not being able to continue fighting. « I will have the feeling of having had a certain influence on the construction of this team to be able to fight for the title, and not being there next year, it hurts. So I want this title this year. To be a little less disappointed in 2025. »
Could Carlos Sainz return to Ferrari in the future?
Kimi Räikkönen, the last champion of the Scuderia, had returned to Ferrari. Sainz would not be against doing the same.
« I firmly believe that you should never say never. In everything I have experienced, I try to part on good terms. I try to put myself in good positions. I am someone who maintains good relationships with people, so I am at ease about it. I will leave this door open.
He said he is committed to his future team, Williams. « For the coming years, Ferrari is not an option for me, as I am committed to Williams. But in four, six, eight, ten years? »
