A big frustration for Charles Leclerc after the Las Vegas Grand Prix

The Monegasque finished in fourth place. But he would have hoped for much better, especially after a bad first relay. He was also angry after a move by Carlos Sainz, who was ordered not to attack Charles Leclerc.

Just shy of the podium. In Las Vegas, Charles Leclerc finished in fourth place. Even though he was hoping for much better. Ferrari was announced as the favorite on the Strip, but the Mercedes cars were superior this weekend.

The Monegasque had a bad start to the Grand Prix. Driver number 16 did not have a good feeling and lost time because of his tires. He was struggling with them.

A bad first relay

“The first ten laps were a bit hot. We were wearing out the tires less than the others at the beginning. I lost a lot of time in the first stint. The second and third ones were much better. But it was too late,” he admitted on Canal +. “It’s a track where we had to be fast. But well, the Mercedes were untouchable. When you put that in the balance, we try to do our best.”

After the race, Charles Leclerc was beside himself. He was clearly not happy to have finished behind Carlos Sainz. His team had asked him to manage his effort. On his side, the Spaniard had been ordered not to overtake him. The son of the former world rally champion did not respect this order.

Ferrari returns to McLaren.

This fourth place, although frustrating for him, is still a good performance. Coupled with his teammate’s third position, it allows the Scuderia to close the gap a little more with McLaren in the constructors’ standings. 24 points separate the two teams.

We maximize the points. We get 3 and 4 behind them. We take points back on McLaren. We take some back on Red Bull. But there is a bit of frustration because it was not far off from going better, said Frédéric Vasseur, Ferrari team principal, on Canal +.
