A 43-year-old record was broken at the Las Vegas Grand Prix
George Russell's victory in the Las Vegas Grand Prix set a new Formula 1 record, erasing the previous one set 43 years ago.

George Russell’s victory in the Grand Prix de Las Vegas marks a historic moment in Formula 1, with a 43-year-old record now broken. Thanks to this success, the 2024 season sees seven different drivers win more than one race, an absolute record.
The 2024 F1 champion, Max Verstappen, won eight races, while Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris each won three. George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz, and Oscar Piastri each have two victories.
This figure exceeds the previous record of six drivers, set in 1981. That year, the champion Nelson Piquet and his rival Alain Prost had each won three races, while Alan Jones, Carlos Reutemann, Gilles Villeneuve, and Jacques Laffite had each claimed two victories. John Watson had secured only one victory.
In 2024, Sergio Perez is the only driver from the top four teams who has not won a race . If the Mexican were to win the last two races, it would bring the total to eight multiple race-winning drivers, highlighting the ultra-competitive nature of this season.
With stable rules for next winter, the battle between the top four teams could be even closer in 2025.
