Fred Vasseur speaks about Ferrari’s loss of the constructors’ title

The director of the Ferrari team, Fred Vasseur, believes that the way the Scuderia reacted after a challenging start to the championship is promising for next season. The Italian team finished in second place in the constructors' standings in 2024, 14 points behind McLaren.

The Italian brand finished in second place behind McLaren in the constructors’ standings, despite an impressive comeback at the end of the season. Ferrari had fallen behind the champions and Red Bull from the start of 2024.

However, the victories of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz almost allowed Ferrari to close the gap with the top of the standings. But it proved insufficient, Lando Norris sealing the title for McLaren with his victory in Abu Dhabi.

Given the difficulties encountered at the beginning of the year, particularly in Spain where Ferrari finished fifth and sixth, and in Austria where Sainz took third place while Leclerc remained without points, Fred Vasseur was asked about the most positive aspect of the season.

He replied: « I think it’s the fact that we have improved and have been able to react in difficult moments. Having good team dynamics and achieving good results is one thing, but reacting when you’re in the s***, as we were in Spain and Austria, is very important for the team’s future. »

« This kind of reaction, this trust that we build with each other, is what prepares our future. I think that was the most important step of the season. »

Ferrari aims for the title in 2025

Ferrari could once again aspire to a first title since the 2008 constructors’ championship. Addressing the main topic on Ferrari’s agenda, Fred Vasseur explained: « I don’t know, because I think it would be a mistake to think there is only one aspect to consider. »

« If you want to do a good job, you must focus on each pillar of performance, in every area. »

« This is true for every part of the car, but I don’t want to make a list, because if I do, I don’t want to point fingers at a particular group. But I think in every area and every department of the company, we just need to do a better job. »

« It’s not a criticism, it’s just that this should be the team’s mindset: to arrive each morning and try to do better than yesterday, and look to improve what we do by a few hundredths of a second. But this mindset is common in sports, and if we don’t have it, we’re finished », he explains.

I’m going to keep pushing. I’m going to continue pushing everyone (with encouragement) to be the first convinced that they contribute to performance at all levels. And in every area, we must do better than in 2024.
