Sergio Perez in Formula E? An interesting possibility according to his father

Sergio Perez lost his Red Bull seat in Formula 1 after a disappointing 2024 season, with the position of Max Verstappen’s teammate going to Liam Lawson next season.

An opportunity in Formula E?

The Mexican finds himself without a seat for the 2025 F1 season, but his father has identified an unexpected opportunity for him.

“I would never have imagined Formula E,” said Antonio Perez to Estadio Deportes during the Mexico E-Prix. “Be careful, as we might see Checo Perez racing here.”

When asked about the possibility of his son actually joining Formula E, he replied: « Of course, without any problem. The category has existed for 11 years, it is very young. »

« Today, she is number two in the world and in five years, she will be number one. That’s why I’m here, I’m observing what’s happening… », he explains.

What are the other options for Sergio Perez?

After a terrible year in which his lack of points contributed to Red Bull losing the constructors’ world championship title to McLaren, a return to F1 seems unlikely for Sergio Perez.

The arrival of Cadillac, or the evolution of Audi in 2026, could represent an unexpected opportunity, but it is also possible that its days in F1 are over.

Sergio Perez insisted that he did not expect to be ousted from F1 and is therefore taking his time to think about what comes next. He admitted that an interesting project in F1 would interest him.

But unless called up mid-season, like Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri in 2023, this seems unlikely. His extensive experience in the top category could make him a candidate for this new role.

But last year might still weigh heavily in the memory of anyone considering hiring the former Red Bull driver.
