Fernando Alonso begins his 22nd season in Formula 1, an absolute record! At 42, the Spaniard is still there, more motivated than ever. His team, Aston Martin, has unveiled its new car, the AMR25, and is counting on the experience of its double world champion to return to the front of the pack.

Last season, after a resounding start in 2023 with eight podiums, the British team lost momentum. No victories, just a supporting role against Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes… In short, not the planned outcome. But Alonso remains optimistic: “We learned a lot in 2024 and the team has used it as a driving force at the dawn of this season with the AMR25,” he tells the press. For him, this season is crucial. It will be the last under the current regulations, before a major overhaul of the rules in 2026.

The AMR25: Evolution Rather Than Revolution

While some have chosen to start from scratch, Aston Martin has decided to evolve its 2024 car rather than overhaul everything. A strategy that could pay off… or not. The engineers spent the winter analyzing what didn’t work last year, particularly the lack of race pace.

They have worked tirelessly at the AMRTC (Aston Martin Racing Technology Campus) to offer a more stable and more performing car throughout an entire season. Alonso trusts the work done: « The competition will be very tight this year, the last year of the current regulations, but I know the team has worked hard at the AMRTC to ensure we are ready. » The first real test will take place during preseason testing in Bahrain, where the AMR25 will finally hit the track against its competitors.

On the other side of the garage, Lance Stroll needs to deliver a strong season. Last year was a real nightmare for the Canadian: only 24 points scored, no points in the last 11 races… And above all, he was completely overshadowed by Alonso. But Stroll remains determined. He knows this year is crucial for his future in F1: “Everyone at AMRTC has worked hard over the winter to improve for 2025.”

Despite the criticism, the Canadian believes in this project, and he wants to prove that he has a place in this team: « What we are building here is an exciting project, with amazing tools and talented people, and 2025 is a key year for us to make progress. » If the AMR25 is competitive, he will have no excuse not to be at the level. Because one thing is certain: if he doesn’t perform this year, the criticism will be even harsher.

A key year for Aston Martin

The year 2025 will be pivotal for Aston Martin. After a disappointing season, the team wants to prove it can compete with the best. Alonso remains the main weapon, but Stroll will need to step up his game to avoid another struggling season. So, see you in Bahrain for the first laps, to see if this AMR25 can really bring Aston Martin back to the forefront.
