Lando Norris: “I didn’t expect to have to attack so much”
Winner of an eventful Australian Grand Prix, the McLaren driver was delighted to claim the fifth victory of his career.

Despite a race ending made difficult by the weather conditions, Lando Norris managed to overcome all the obstacles in front of him to win in Melbourne.
« It was incredible! The race was tough with Max behind, so there was some stress. I made mistakes with some moments in the gravel, but we made the right decisions. » Norris is referring here to the strategic mistakes made by his team last season.
« We made so many mistakes last year, so I’m glad we’ve learned from them. I really attacked from start to finish. I didn’t expect to have to attack that much. I can be proud of what I did today. »
The current vice-world champion does not forget to pay tribute to his team, whose MCL39 has already demonstrated that it is a well-born single-seater.
McLaren provided me with an incredible race and I want to thank them for it. At the end of the race, I knew I had the pace and I stayed calm despite the pressure from Max. It’s only the first race, I’m keeping my head down and I will continue to work.
Thanks to this victory, McLaren’s 190th win, Lando Norris finds himself leading a Formula 1 World Championship for the first time in his career.
