Verstappen’s future a hot topic of discussion
Max Verstappen's future, despite his contract with Red Bull running until the end of 2028, continues to provoke speculation. Juan Pablo Montoya recently claimed that a transfer to Aston Martin was not only possible, but likely, while another theory suggests a move to Ferrari.

Max Verstappen, a four-time world champion, remains with Red Bull until 2028. Yet his name continues to swirl around the paddock, fueling the wildest rumors about his future. Two potential destinations stand out: Aston Martin, driven by Lawrence Stroll’s ambitious vision, and Ferrari, the ultimate symbol of automotive legend. So, which path will the Dutch prodigy choose?
Not long ago, Helmut Marko didn’t rule out the possibility that the team’s star driver could “go elsewhere” before the end of his contract — as early as next year.
Juan Pablo Montoya recently added fuel to the fire by claiming that a move to Aston Martin for Verstappen was not only possible but even likely. The former F1 driver’s argument is based on Aston Martin’s potential to be competitive starting in 2026, when the new engine regulations come into effect and the Silverstone-based team will benefit from Honda’s support. If Red Bull were to struggle with its own power unit, the prospect of reuniting with Adrian Newey — the architect of his past successes — and working with a renowned engine manufacturer like Honda could very well persuade Verstappen to seek a change of scenery.
According to Montoya, the decision might even come quickly: “If Red Bull runs into trouble in the first year, I wouldn’t be surprised if, by the third race, Max had already signed with someone else.” Such a scenario would inevitably mean the departure of Fernando Alonso, whose age could count against him. Meanwhile, the retention of Lance Stroll, the team owner’s son, is seen as non-negotiable.
A recurring pattern in F1: the move to Ferrari
Alongside this theory, another perspective is emerging — one rooted more in history and symbolism. Journalist Daniel Valente pointed out a striking fact: every driver who has won at least four world championships has, at some point in their career, raced for Ferrari — except Verstappen. This observation suggests that the Dutchman might eventually give in to the pull of Maranello, aiming to complete his legacy and etch his name among the Scuderia’s legends.
Indeed, in 2023, Mercedes attempted to lure Verstappen, but the driver ultimately chose to stay with Red Bull. However, circumstances evolve quickly in Formula 1, and the dynamics could shift significantly in the coming years.
So, will Verstappen join Aston Martin to form a dream team with Newey and Honda, or will he follow in the footsteps of his illustrious predecessors by signing with Ferrari? Only time will tell.
