Miami GP weather forecast: Heat, humidity and risk of thunderstorms on the programme

The sixth round of the 2025 World Championship takes place this weekend under Florida's hot and humid skies, on the urban circuit that winds around Hard Rock Stadium. For the second time this season, drivers will compete in a Sprint format weekend. With a single free practice session scheduled for Friday morning and Sprint qualifying in the afternoon, every mistake will be costly. Weather conditions are expected to be changeable and unpredictable, with a risk of severe thunderstorms late on Sunday afternoon, a factor that could well disrupt team strategies. Here's the detailed weather report.

General situation:

On Friday, a high-pressure area (1023 hPa) settled over the North Atlantic, off the US coast. This high-pressure area brings warm, humid weather to the whole of Florida, especially the east coast, including Miami.

Southeasterly winds carry moist marine air from the Atlantic Ocean. As the transition to the wet season begins in May, a first disturbed zone, albeit weak, will cross the Miami area on Sunday, bringing isolated thunderstorms and increased ambient humidity.

Weather forecast for Miami

Friday, May 2 – FP1 and Sprint Qualifying

The day will start under very cloudy to overcast skies, before the sun gradually makes an appearance in the late morning and afternoon. The wind will blow from the southeast at around 15 km/h, gusting up to 30 km/h.

Air temperatures will fluctuate between 28°C and 29°C during both sessions, while the track will be between 42°C and 49°C. The UV index will be 7 and humidity around 50%. No risk of rain.

Saturday, May 3 – Sprint Race and Qualifying

Saturday promises to be a sunny day overall, despite the presence of numerous clouds. The wind will continue to blow from the southeast at around 15 km/h. The maximum temperature will reach 29°C, with the track fluctuating between 44°C and 49°C.

The UV index will be around 9, and atmospheric pressure will be falling. With humidity at 50%, the risk of rain remains low for both the Sprint race and the qualifying session.

Sunday, May 4 – The race

On Sunday, the weather could well be the surprise guest at the Miami Grand Prix. From daybreak, very cloudy skies will dominate, with high humidity favoring increasing atmospheric instability as the day progresses.

In the early afternoon, the clouds, driven by a southeasterly flow, will become increasingly threatening, raising the risk of thundery showers towards the end of the day. At the start of the race, set for 16:00 local time (22:00 in Paris), conditions will be very cloudy, with a temperature of around 29°C, a track temperature of 45°C and a humidity level of around 60%.

During the 57 laps of the race, the wind, blowing from the southeast at between 15 and 20 km/h, could reach or exceed 30 km/h in gusts under storm cells. These unstable and potentially stormy conditions will require a reassessment of the sky’s evolution on Sunday morning.
