The F1 Academy has confirmed that a third race will be added to the schedule of the fourth round of the season in Montreal.

On the occasion of the Canadian Grand Prix, a special race format will be implemented to compensate for the cancellation of the last round scheduled in Miami. This exceptional measure only applies to this stage of the championship and will not be used for the rest of the season.

How is this going to happen?

The Canadian weekend will therefore consist of three races, spread over two days: two on Saturday, one on Sunday. Each race will last 30 minutes plus one lap. A reorganized schedule is also planned from Friday, to adapt to this new format. The new timings will be announced soon.

The starting grid for race 1 will be based on the grid from race 2 in Miami, which ultimately did not take place. This choice allows for the reuse of data already recorded before the cancellation. Furthermore, the driver participating as a wild card for this fourth round will start from the back of the grid. The top ten finishers will receive the usual points: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, and 1.

Race 2 promises to be more strategic: the grid will be constructed by reversing the top eight drivers from the Montreal qualifying session. A system that disrupts the established order and could favor spectacular comebacks. Points will be awarded to the top eight, according to a specific scale: 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.

Race 3, held on Sunday, will rely on the best laps achieved in qualifying to set its starting grid. The top ten will once again receive the classic points. Two bonus points will be awarded to the driver securing the pole position.

Finally, an additional point will be awarded to the driver with the fastest lap in race 1 and race 3, provided they finish in the top 10. The same rule will apply to race 2, but limited to the top eight finishers.

This exceptional format helps maintain the championship’s balance despite the cancellation of Miami. It promises a dynamic and strategic weekend, under high tension.
