Nigel Mansell and the legendary Williams FW14B return to Goodwood in July

The Goodwood Festival of Speed, from July 10 to 13, will feature the Williams FW14B, the single-seater that won Nigel Mansell his only world title in 1992. This iconic car will be driven by a number of motorsport figures, including James Vowles, Jamie Chadwick, Lia Block and Nigel Mansell himself.

Designed by Patrick Head and Adrian Newey, the Williams FW14B was at the cutting edge of technology in 1992. It was equipped with a semi-automatic gearbox, active suspension, a traction control system, and an anti-lock braking system. These innovations allowed Nigel Mansell to dominate the season, winning nine out of sixteen races and securing the world title with five races remaining in the championship.

A much-anticipated return

Nigel Mansell, now 71 years old, will be reunited with his legendary single-seater at the Festival of Speed. He had already participated in the event in 2022 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his title. This year, he will share the wheel with James Vowles, director of the Williams team, Jamie Chadwick, ambassador of the team, and Lia Block, driver for the F1 Academy.

A celebration of the past and the future

The theme for this 2025 edition, “The Winning Formula: Champions and Challengers,” will highlight past champions and emerging talents. The presence of the Williams FW14B symbolizes this bridge between generations, recalling past achievements while inspiring future champions.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025 promises to be a memorable event for Formula 1 enthusiasts and automotive history lovers.

The Rolling Legacy of Formula 1

Seeing the FW14B take to the Goodwood hill again is not just a mechanical spectacle, it’s a form of living transmission. For Jamie Chadwick, who recently signed a historic victory in the European Le Mans Series, the connection is emotional. The FW14B is the most iconic car in our collection at Williams. […] The sound is incredible, I’m going to prepare my earplugs.

On his side, James Vowles, a fervent defender of the team’s history, speaks of a dream come true. These figures, from different generations and disciplines, share a rare moment: paying tribute to a golden age of Formula 1 while embodying the future. Because beyond nostalgia, the FW14B reminds us how racing is a matter of technical, human, and symbolic progress. At Goodwood, it will not only be a 1992 car that drives, but a whole section of sporting history that comes back to life to the rhythm of the Renault V10, under the amazed eyes of speed enthusiasts and mechanical memory.
