McLaren unveils special « Riviera » livery for Monaco and Barcelona
McLaren has unveiled a special livery for the forthcoming Monaco and Spanish Grand Prix. Designed in collaboration with its main partner OKX, this revisited version is inspired by both the elegance of the Riviera and the M7A, the team's first single-seater to win a Formula 1 race in 1968.
McLaren has unveiled an exceptional livery that will adorn its F1 cars during the Monaco and Spanish GPs. This unique design, created in collaboration with its main partner, OKX, is inspired by the Mediterranean shores while paying tribute to the team’s history.
Named Riviera, this livery evokes the mythical McLaren M7A, the team’s first car to secure a victory in F1 in 1968, with Bruce McLaren at the wheel. This single-seater then established the papaya hue, which has since become inseparable from McLaren’s DNA.
The new look of the MCL39 was unveiled during an event held on a yacht docked in the Monaco harbor. Among the striking details of this new livery: white medallions placed on the rear and top of the chassis, incorporating the numbers of drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, a clear nod to the original M7A style.
A Monegasque tradition for McLaren.
This initiative continues a well-established habit at McLaren, which enjoys regularly revisiting its look for the race in the Principality. Last year, the team opted for a livery dominated by yellow in tribute to Senna. In 2023, it was the celebration of 60 years with a Triple Crown design celebrating their victories at the Indy 500, the Monaco Grand Prix, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while in 2021, the blue and orange colors of Gulf Oil made their return on the Woking team’s cars.
« We always feel a special pride in celebrating our illustrious heritage. This collaboration with OKX on this livery allows us not only to highlight our heritage but also the innovative spirit that characterizes both of our brands. I can’t wait to see the cars on track during the next two race weekends. », says Louise McEwen, Chief Marketing Officer of McLaren Racing.
OKX’s Chief Marketing Officer, Haider Rafique, also spoke: « F1 has undergone major transformations over the years, from technological advancements to the recent explosion of its popularity. The mindset of this sport has evolved into an attitude that constantly seeks to push boundaries. This perfectly resonates with our mission to disrupt conventional approaches to finance. The Riviera livery symbolizes this transformation and the elegance that characterizes both OKX and McLaren. »
The McLaren drivers will also wear matching suits at the Monaco GP. This launch coincides with OKX’s entry into the European market, while McLaren leads the constructors’ championship by 132 points, and Piastri is ahead of his teammate by 13 points and Max Verstappen by 22 points in the drivers’ standings.
