Oscar Piastri, master of Barcelona
Oscar Piastri confirmed his status as a serious contender for the world title with an authoritative victory in the Spanish Grand Prix 2025, held this Sunday on the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit. The Australian McLaren driver scored his fifth win of the season, consolidating his position at the top of the championship ahead of team-mate Lando Norris.

Starting from pole position, Oscar Piastri led the race from start to finish, leaving no chance for his opponents. Despite a restart towards the end of the race following the safety car’s departure, he remained unflappable, perfectly controlling the situation to cross the finish line as the victor.
« At one point, it was tight, but the benefit of new tires was short-lived when pushing hard. Max Verstappen did come back on this strategy, but his tires were degrading much faster. We did well to stick to our plan, it didn’t distract us, but we had to keep an eye on Max Verstappen,” he said after the race.
This victory also marks the 52nd one-two finish in McLaren’s history, with Lando Norris finishing in second position. Charles Leclerc completes the podium for Ferrari, benefiting from Max Verstappen’s troubles, who was penalized for a collision with George Russell.
An exceptional season
With this fifth victory in nine races, the McLaren driver demonstrates impressive consistency. He becomes the first Australian driver to win in Spain since Mark Webber in 2010 and the first to give McLaren a victory on this circuit since Kimi Räikkönen in 2005. His lead in the championship now stands at 10 points over his teammate Lando Norris, while Max Verstappen, relegated to tenth place due to a penalty, sees his title hopes diminish.
