Russell: I’m not talking to any other team
The Canadian Grand Prix winner spoke out about recent transfer rumours concerning him. The Briton says that, although he has not yet signed a contract extension with Mercedes, he is not in talks with any team.

A victory that comes at the right time. As rumors have been intensifying in recent days about George Russell’s future, with The Times mentioning interest from Aston Martin, the Briton reaffirmed his loyalty to Mercedes, following his success at the Canadian Grand Prix. A fourth career triumph, which strengthens his position within the German team for the 2026 season.
Already questioned on the subject recently, Russell had hinted that he would stay with Mercedes. This time he was more explicit, stating that he was not talking with any other team, despite the uncertainty related to his contract for the next season, which is still not signed.
A newfound confidence
Currently fourth in the world championship, the 26-year-old driver knows that such a result can carry weight. “It doesn’t hurt,” he told RaceFans, before adding that he is not at all worried about 2026. “I know I will be on the grid next year,” he assured, stating that he is in better shape than ever and convinced he still has the potential to aim for the world title.
Poleman on Saturday, winner on Sunday, Russell delivered a strong performance in Montreal. He appears calm and highlights his progress and growing confidence behind the wheel: « I’m enjoying the moment, I’m having fun driving, and I’m living week by week. » While the German team hasn’t ruled out pursuing Max Verstappen for the upcoming regulations, Russell was keen to reaffirm his commitment to Mercedes. The Brit indicated to all the teams looking to recruit him that he has no intention of leaving Mercedes.
Russell wishes to continue his career at Mercedes
« I don’t talk to anyone else, and to the teams that have shown interest, I’ve made it clear that my intention is to stay with Mercedes. It’s always been clear. I am loyal to Mercedes. They gave me this chance to enter Formula 1. There is no ambiguity about my intentions », emphasized Russell. And he added, clear-headed: « If all contracts were reset, Max would be the priority for all teams. It’s understandable. »
Mercedes remains cautious about the future, but the current momentum is encouraging. The Brackley team achieved its best result of the season in Canada, with a double podium: Russell won, and young Andrea Kimi Antonelli finished third, marking his first podium in Formula 1. A 100% Mercedes-trained duo that the Briton does not wish to break up. “We are two drivers trained by the team, and we deliver in terms of performance. Why change something that works?” he emphasized.
While awaiting a possible officialization of his contract, George Russell will arrive with full confidence at the Red Bull Ring, where he won last year. The Mercedes driver will aim for another victory to continue to assert his legitimacy… and his place in 2026.
