Isack Hadjar, disappointed but not despondent

Isack Hadjar's qualifying, eliminated in Q2, failed to live up to expectations. Handicapped by a drop in the performance of his single-seater, he started 13th.

Isack Hadjar is familiar with the Red Bull Ring after having raced here in F3 and then in F2. And on paper, this circuit suits his Racing Bulls quite well. Yet, there can sometimes be a world of difference between what is expected and what happens. After yesterday’s qualifying, the French driver would surely agree. His car, destabilized by the wind, changed behavior between Q1 and Q2.

« I think today went very well, we made very good changes compared to yesterday. Our competitiveness was very strong and we achieved very good results in the first quarter. We passed very easily. The car seemed very strong and then in Q2 we couldn’t keep things right, we struggled a bit with the car’s balance, quite a lot actually. »

A sudden change in behavior that Hadjar doesn’t really have an explanation for. « We are supposed to progress between Q1 and Q2, but instead, we have regressed in terms of timing. It’s incomprehensible, » he admits to the Canal+ microphone.

However, there’s no question of feeling sorry for ourselves. There’s still hope for the race. « We didn’t manage to pass, we were close, but the car is fast, and starting from thirteenth place, we’ll fight for the points, » hopes the rookie. « The tires hold up quite well here. From our starting position, a one-stop strategy would make the most sense, but you never know. »
