Carlos Sainz forced to retire before the start of the Austrian Grand Prix
A chaotic start to the Austrian Grand Prix, with Carlos Sainz forced to retire even before the start of the race.

The start of the Austrian Grand Prix was interrupted after Carlos Sainz failed to set off during the formation lap.
A retirement for Carlos Sainz
As the cars left the grid, the Williams driver, Carlos Sainz, starting from 19th position, remained stationary, indicating that his car was stalled and could not move.
The race management then decided to halt the start just as poleman Lando Norris was entering the final sector, triggering the procedure resulting in a 10-minute delay.
Carlos Sainz finally managed to get out of his grid position just as the other cars were returning to the start-finish straight. But when he was entering the pits, his car started to emit smoke, before flames escaped from the rear brakes, sealing his withdrawal from the Grand Prix. A nightmare weekend for the Spaniard.
Due to the aborted start, the race was shortened by one lap.
Things have gone from bad to worse for Carlos 😩
