Red Bull ends 77 Grand Prix in the points

For the first time in 77 consecutive Grand Prix, Red Bull leaves the race empty-handed in the points standings - a record that began at the Saudi Arabian GP 2022 and was brutally interrupted at the Red Bull Ring.

Red Bull had until now an impressive series of 77 consecutive Grand Prix with at least one driver scoring points, which began between the Saudi Arabian GP 2022 and the Canadian GP 2025. An incredible longevity that abruptly ended in Spielberg… The latest proof, if any were needed, of the decline of the Austrian team this year.

Max Verstappen indeed had to throw in the towel after his collision with the young Kimi Antonelli, while Yuki Tsunoda still can’t tame this rather capricious Red Bull, finishing in 16th position after a collision with Franco Colapinto and a penalty for that contact… which was last, considering the four retirements in the race.

Since Bahrain 2022, such a “drama” (relatively speaking…) had not occurred for the six-time world champion team. Max Verstappen’s retirement, the first since the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, ends his own series of 31 consecutive Grand Prix in the points, as he had qualified in 7th position, marking his first “zero points” in 462 days.

Yuki Tsunoda struggling

The second driver, Yuki Tsunoda, had failed to qualify his RB21 during Q1 (P18), admitting a lack of pace since Saturday. This Sunday then mirrored his season since he joined the big sister of VisaCashApp, replacing Liam Lawson: no redeeming performance.

The Japanese driver, in fact, was very hard on himself in the post-race interview with Canal Plus, apologizing to Franco Colapinto for the collision and abruptly ending the exchange with a dejected expression. **You can sense he feels immensely guilty and is under constant pressure from his team principal.** A temporary crisis… or an internal earthquake to come? The second driver’s inability to keep up, even as a backup, raises questions about the duo’s stability. And we’re very familiar with Red Bull’s habits in this area: if the results don’t follow, it’s the door… Something we obviously don’t wish upon the Japanese driver.

Irony of fate: Red Bull hit rock bottom… at the heart of the Spielberg bastion, at home. And it’s McLaren who benefits in the standings, the double podium allows them to extend their monstrous lead to 207 points over Ferrari, while Verstappen remains in 3rd place in the drivers’ standings with his 155 points, but sees both McLaren drivers pulling away and George Russell coming back in his rearview mirrors, just nine points away.”

July 4-6, Silverstone will be the relentless judge. Red Bull will have to roll up its sleeves, rebrief its drivers, and above all, Tsunoda must prove that he can break out of the spiral. But this defeat at home also serves as a warning: even the brightest empire is always at risk of falling…
