Yuki Tsunoda admits to being “a bit lost” after finishing last in the British Grand Prix

Yuki Tsunoda’s struggles at Red Bull continued with a last-place finish (15th) at the 2025 British Grand Prix, after a chaotic race at Silverstone.

A new complicated weekend

The Japanese driver once again lacked pace, particularly penalized by a gamble from Red Bull on low aerodynamic downforce, which complicated the race for both cars.

A collision with Ollie Bearman dashed his hopes of a top 10 finish, and Yuki Tsunoda received a 10-second penalty, capping off another difficult weekend.

Until the qualifications, Yuki Tsunoda was showing a better pace. In Q2, a loss of power on his final fast lap deprived him of a place in the top 10.

Reflecting on his race, the Red Bull driver admitted to have been simply very slow.

“It’s quite clear with the collision, but apart from that, to be honest, the pace was unfortunately very slow,” he states.

On long stints, it’s always particularly slow for a reason I can’t explain. The tires degrade like never before, I’ve never experienced this before.

« We were driving with little downforce, but nonetheless, I was fairly confident in the rain. However, in wet conditions, the pace was non-existent. So I’m a bit lost. »

Despite everything, he notes a few positive points in dry conditions. « Over one lap, it wasn’t bad. But the long stints are really a point to analyze », explains the Japanese.

Christian Horner makes a comparison on the situation

Red Bull boss Christian Horner compared Yuki Tsunoda’s current situation to that of Eddie Irvine with Michael Schumacher at Ferrari in the late 1990s.

« I just spoke to Eddie Irvine, and what Yuki is going through right now reminds me of what he experienced with Schumacher back in the day, » said Christian Horner to F1TV.

« Exceptional drivers can drive cars that are extremely focused on having a very strong front end; very few are capable of doing that. »

That’s why we’re trying to take a different approach with Yuki, to calm things down a little on his side.

On his side, Max Verstappen finished 5th after a mistake under the safety car.
