Max Verstappen reflects on the announcement of Christian Horner’s departure
The Dutch driver gave his impressions after the big news of the last few days: the ousting of long-time Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner.

A few days after the announcement of Christian Horner’s departure after twenty years at the helm of the team, Max Verstappen’s reaction to this announcement was awaited in the Spa paddock. Not very talkative as usual lately, the Dutch driver believes that it will not change much in the functioning of the Austrian team.
« I learned about Christian’s departure the day before the official announcement. The management of the team had told me about it. Life goes on. His departure doesn’t affect my future. The team made the decision to make these changes. As for me, I have to look forward. »
While rumors of a move to Mercedes next season are rife, Verstappen therefore considers that his future is not tied to the recent management change decision of his team. Far from these concerns, the current third place holder in the championship has taken advantage of the break since the British Grand Prix to take a few days of vacation and look ahead to the rest of the season.
« We had a two-week break, so each team was able to continue working. I also took advantage of it to take a few days of vacation and reflect on how the season is going so far. I return here always with the goal of improving myself. »
When finally asked about the repercussions that the change in the team’s leadership might have, the four-time world champion preferred to sidestep the question.
« We are competitors. Of course, Christian has been a team member for so long, so everyone must have been surprised by the news. Now, we must continue to work and focus on the on-track performance. »
Verstappen won two races in the first half of the season with victories at Suzuka and Imola. Before Spa, his team is currently fourth in the championship, 38 points behind Mercedes.
