George Russell admits rumors about him don’t affect him
In the Spa paddock, the Mercedes driver prefers to concentrate on the race rather than listen to the rumours swirling around him about his short-term future.
« Rumors do not impact me or my daily life. I haven’t lost any sleep! I don’t really think about it because, as I have always said, the best thing I can do is be fast on the track. Of course, we discuss things behind the scenes, but for now, I have nothing to announce. »
Regarding the upcoming weekend, Mercedes could take advantage of the cool temperatures in the Belgian Ardennes to perform, as was the case last year with Lewis Hamilton’s victory, or even at the Las Vegas Grand Prix last November with a double win for the German team.
« We could take advantage of these conditions even if Silverstone didn’t work in our favor. Spa is a place I love to come to. It reminds me of 2021 with Williams where I finished on the podium with a front-row qualifying. It’s going to be exciting to drive with changing conditions in front of the always large number of fans. There’s also the Sprint, so I can’t wait to be back on track. »
Russell crossed the line first at Spa last year before being disqualified for a non-compliant weight of his car.
« I still consider this race as a victory, and even the most beautiful of my career. So I hope to finally bring the winner’s trophy home this year. »
Before this race weekend, the English driver is in 4th place in the championship, 18 points behind Max Verstappen in 3rd place. As for his team, they are in 3rd place, 12 points behind Ferrari in 2nd place.
