Lewis Hamilton depressed and fatalistic after qualifying in Hungary
Only 12th in the qualifying session at the Hungaroring, the seven-time world champion had some harsh words to say about himself when he got out of his single-seater.

Winner eight times in Hungary so far, Lewis Hamilton will undoubtedly have a hard time increasing this statistic during the 2025 edition of the Grand Prix held near the capital Budapest.
Starting from 12th on the grid on a circuit where overtaking is very difficult, the Ferrari driver will have a tough task to climb back up the field and join his teammate at the front. For it was indeed Charles Leclerc in the other red car who surprised everyone by taking pole position ahead of the two McLaren drivers, despite them being favorites on the Hungarian track.
Far, very far from the Monegasque, Hamilton had strong words after this failed session.
« It’s my fault, every time. I’m useless, absolutely useless. I drive terribly. The team has no problem since the other car is in pole position. They definitely need to change drivers. »
A bitter and unfiltered observation for the 40-year-old driver whose good results with the Scuderia are slow to arrive. In 13 races since the start of the season, Hamilton has not done better than 4th in a race, at Imola and then at Silverstone, while his teammate has already been on the podium five times. The honeymoon between the two F1 legends had started well with a pole and a victory during the Sprint at the second event of the season in China last March.
In pursuit of an eighth title that would put him alone at the top of the F1 rankings ahead of Michael Schumacher, Hamilton has been struggling since the return of ground-effect cars three years ago. The new technical revolution expected in 2026 should allow him to regain success if Ferrari chooses the right direction in development.
It is all we wish for the native of Stevenage and his team. In the meantime, Hamilton will have ten Grand Prix to right the ship after the summer break.
