Luca Di Grassi, isport driver, had a chance this weekend to win the 2007 GP2 title as he was only two points behind Timo Glock. Unfortunately for him, the first race on Saturday was a disaster. He retired and started 23rd on Sunday for the last race of the season with little hope of clinching the title. He did his best and ultimately finished 13th after a strong comeback, but it was not enough.

The driver of the French team ART Grand Prix finishes second in the overall drivers’ standings, eleven points behind the winner. He is crowned Vice Champion GP2 2007.

“I am very sad not to have been crowned Champion. I wanted this title more than anything in the world. But iSport did a very good job this year and Timo deserves his title. They were a bit ahead of us. That’s how it is. Timo was in front. So I had to take risks and it didn’t pay off,” comments Lucas di Grassi.

He remains optimistic about his great season: “Despite everything, my disappointment should not make me forget everything I achieved this season: I secured six podiums and won a victory. Of the 87 points scored by ART, I collected 77. The team finishes second in the constructors’ standings. I really would have liked to give them the drivers’ title.”

Timo Glock thus succeeds Lewis Hamilton in 2006 and Nico Rosberg in 2005, but he will first have to find a place in F1 to make a name for himself. Di Grassi has a strong chance of staying in GP2 series, although Renault F1 could bring him to the top level as a test driver in 2008.
