Timo Glock was crowned the 2007 GP2 champion last Sunday, the stepping stone to F1. But after a very tight season, the German cannot believe in his success.

Glock seemed capable of winning the title all season. But in the second half, he faced many incidents and mechanical problems, allowing Luca Di Grassi the chance to catch up to the iSport driver and get within just 2 points as the season neared its end…

The successor to Hamilton finally won the last two races, in Valencia, and concluded a season full of obstacles, proving that the driver and the team were on the edge all year.

« At the moment, it’s really hard to believe, » commented an emotional Glock. « Especially after all the hard work this year, all the tough times in the race at Spa in particular… »

« There are really ups and downs, but winning the championship is a unique feeling. »

The BMW Sauber test driver in F1 had raced very briefly in 2004 with Jordan but had decided to return to GP2, which in his opinion remains the most suitable place to access Formula 1.

Finally, it’s just new techniques to grasp in F1, even if the driving is harder. commented Glock.

« You saw Nico [Rosberg] and Lewis [Hamilton] become champions over the last two years in GP2, and today Lewis is about to win the title… in F1!

« The GP2 is certainly the only championship where you have to drive. It is the closest in terms of driving and contact to Formula 1 because we race in front of most of the teams. That’s what is important. »

Some rumors predict the German driver at Williams or Toyota as a replacement for Wurz or Schumacher.

« Now, I just hope I can find a seat for 2008, preferably with a good team. »
