He must now continue his efforts to strengthen his 8th place in the drivers’ championship and thus keep his competitors at a sufficient distance.
In any case, Fisichella has demonstrated that in difficult conditions he can make a difference, and this could happen once again this weekend in China as a last-minute guest (the rain) might make an appearance…
Giancarlo, the Japanese Grand Prix was held in extreme track conditions, conditions that you generally enjoy…
“Yes, I’ve always been comfortable in the rain. In Japan, we weren’t set up to handle such conditions; the car was constantly aquaplaning. I fought a lot with my car but still managed to climb up to fifth place after what was undoubtedly one of the most challenging races of my career!”
“These are big points and a very important team result, especially since Heikki made it to the podium!”
Is China a Grand Prix that you enjoy?
“Yes, very. It’s a very interesting circuit for the drivers and I think it is very demanding for the engineers who have to meet different challenges to fine-tune the car, but we will have time to work well during the three hours of practice on Friday.”
What are the elements you will need to work on to develop your car?
“This circuit features long straights, high-speed corners, but also some slow turns.”
“It will once again be a matter of compromise, and we will have to strive to find the ideal balance between a stable car in the corners, therefore aerodynamically loaded, and a good top speed to be able to defend our position or overtake on the straight… This will be our goal from the first runs and throughout the weekend!”
