Lewis Hamilton is currently under investigation by the FIA regarding the driver’s conduct behind the safety car in Japan when it was deployed for the second time. If the outcome of this matter proves true, the English driver’s title win might become a bit more complicated…

The FIA has received new evidence regarding the championship leader about his conduct behind the safety car, and these would suggest that he contributed to the collision between Webber and Vettel.

Rumor has it that the administrators have visual proof that the British driver was excessively slowing down and accelerating.

Article 40.10 of the F1 regulations states: « The safety car will be used until the race leader is behind it and all remaining cars are lined up behind him. Once behind the safety car, the race leader must maintain a minimum distance of 5 meters from it. »

A spokesperson for the governing body of this sport confirmed that Hamilton is under close scrutiny to determine if this condition has been met. The new evidence has been brought to the administrators’ attention and they are currently studying it, the spokesperson stated.

We recall that it was at this precise moment that Vettel collided with Webber and both were forced to retire.

Webber from Red Bull stated on Thursday during a press conference: « [The movement to the right] certainly contributed to Sebastian crashing into me because [Hamilton] was not doing what he was supposed to do. »

In the end, Vettel has already been given a 10-place grid penalty in China, and Hamilton is also at risk of the same sanction.
