The 2008 GP2 single-seater, currently being developed to replace the aging car, underwent safety tests yesterday that were as rigorous as those required for Formula 1.
The GP2/08, under its code name, has therefore passed the crash test of an F1, the most stringent standards that exist in motorsport.
The single-seater that will be used from 2008 to 2010 has therefore been approved by the championship leaders and will indeed be used next season.
« The GP2 series is incredibly proud to have a new car homologated to the highest levels of FIA [Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile] safety. » comments a report.
« We thank Dallara for helping us realize the car of one of the safest and most exciting championships now. »
The single-seater, equipped by Renault, will be used in testing during the first 2008 trials, which have not yet been scheduled. Let us also recall that this version has gained nearly 2 seconds over the 2005/2007 version.
