Mallya, the new owner of the Spyker team, must be disappointed with the results of his drivers for his first GP with this title. To top it off, he was present in Shanghai.
The team started the weekend at the back of the pack, and it will end it at the back of the pack. And for good reason, Sutil retired midway through the race after a spectacular exit in the last corner of the circuit where the pit lane entrance is located.
As for Yamamoto, he did finish the race, but he ended up in last place, which means 17th position, after numerous pit stops.
Adrian Sutil – retirement
“It was a disappointing weekend. We took some risks in the race, starting first with rain tires. We were hoping for a lot more rain, but in the end, it didn’t come, and we changed. It was very difficult to drive, but we continued until the second pit stop for dry tires.”
“It was too early and that’s when the rain appeared again. It came at the wrong time to drive safely and suddenly at the last corner, the car went straight into the barriers. We must forget this, however, and now look towards Brazil. There are good races and bad races, and it was just a bad one today.”
Sakon Yamamoto – 17th
“In this late afternoon, we can say that we made some mistakes with the tire choice. It was a very tough race with the option to choose for the tires, it was a double or nothing.”
“One positive thing is that I finished the race, and this with four tire changes, so mixed conditions. We need to focus on Brazil, one of my favorite circuits, where I hope to end the season on a good note.”
Mike Gascoyne – Technical Director
“We had placed a bet on the arrival of rain, so our tire choice was based on that, but the rain never really showed up as we wanted. We had to switch to rain tires.”
“Unfortunately, we then switched to dry conditions, but after a few laps, it started to rain and Adrian went off the track, coming to a stop in the tires. Sakon did a good job by bringing the car to the end of the race, but I think we can all say that it’s a race to forget.”
