Well protected by Dani Sordo, Sébastien Loeb wins his third consecutive Rally of Spain and takes back four points from Marcus Grönholm. The chase will continue in Corsica for the Frenchman. He needs to gain on average one more point than the Finn per rally, and the asphalt should help him.

« The most important thing for me was to make up for some of our delay on Grönholm, admits Seb. Despite changing grip conditions and unpredictable weather on Friday, we managed to come out on top. This result is boosted by Dani Sordo’s great race, which puts him between us and Marcus, allowing us to gain four points. Our C4 WRC once again proved to be very competitive on asphalt, which is encouraging for the Tour de Corse. »

Constantly encouraged and urged on by the enthusiastic Spanish crowd, Dani Sordo had a smile on his face as he stepped down from the podium. “There was quite a bit of pressure on our shoulders at the start,” exclaimed the Spaniard. “Everyone expected us to do well, and we were very motivated to get ahead of Grönholm. We managed to achieve our goal at the end of a rally where the car proved to be incredibly competitive in all circumstances. I even found myself leading a world championship round for the first time in my career! Before the next event, also on asphalt, this is promising.”

« We came to the start of Catalunya with the objective of trying to achieve a double victory. We succeeded. I can only be satisfied, summarizes Guy Fréquelin. What is remarkable is the way we achieved this result. Our cars confirmed their excellent potential on asphalt. The entire Citroën Sport team did a fantastic job, avoiding the traps and making wise tire choices that put our crews in the best conditions. Seb and Daniel showed great dominance, while Dani and Marc delivered an outstanding performance marked by great speed and intelligence. All these parameters will need to be replicated next week in Corsica, and we are very motivated to succeed. »
