We’ve just learned that today, Tuesday, October 9, the reigning world champion Fernando Alonso met with a magistrate in Modena, Italy, to answer questions regarding the espionage case between Ferrari and McLaren Mercedes.
Alonso met with Magistrate Giuseppe Tibis, who is in charge of the investigation around Nigel Stepney. The McLaren driver answered questions regarding the email exchange he had with Pedro de la Rosa earlier in 2007.
It was this evidence that confirmed Stepney had indeed disclosed confidential Ferrari information to McLaren engineer Mike Coughlan, who has since been suspended by the team.
Alonso, who spent two hours with Tibis, is not a suspect in the Italian investigation but was invited as an informed person to answer these questions.
He also told Tibis that during the email exchanges, he did not realize that many laws had been broken. According to the most reliable sources, other well-known names in Formula One have also been invited to answer questions as witnesses.
This espionage case, which has been the saga of the year 2007, is far from over, at least administratively…
