On his favorite asphalt rally, Marcus Grönholm hoped to challenge Sébastien Loeb’s dominance on this surface. But the Ford driver loses four points to his main rival for the title.
« I was aiming for the second position here, » admits Marcus after the finish of the Spanish rally.
« When I lost thirty seconds on the wet on Friday, my hopes for first or second place disappeared. I wasn’t confident. The rest of the rally was less interesting because everything was decided. I still have a good lead in the championship and I hope to get a good result in Corsica. »
The future retiree remains confident for the rally in Corsica, which will start on Thursday with the Shakedown. His Ford has been as competitive as the Citroëns of Loeb and Sordo for a good part of the rally, except during a stage in the rain.
« This weekend we proved that in dry conditions we have the ability to match Loeb and Sordo on asphalt, a surface on which they excel, » commented the Finn.
« Last year I finished second in Corsica and I hope to at least achieve that position again. » He concluded.
Before the last four events, Marcus Grönholm holds a six-point lead over Sebastien Loeb. The end of the season theoretically seems more favorable for the Frenchman.
