McLaren invited a Spanish member of the FIA to the Brazilian Grand Prix to observe once and for all that Fernando Alonso is not being neglected by the team.

With accusations of favoritism surrounding the McLaren camp concerning the second driver, Lewis Hamilton, the Woking team has invited Carlos Gracia, who will head the Spanish motorsport federation, to the Brazilian event.

Garcia, while handling the race, will also need to ensure that Alonso is treated the same way as his British teammate by the team. He also indicated that the FIA will keep an eye on McLaren for the same reasons.

« Yes, it is true that the FIA will look more closely at the team’s actions to ensure that nothing untoward is done deliberately to Fernando, particularly in qualifying, where there were the most complaints or strange situations in the last Grand Prix, » declared Garcia.

« On October 3, I had a meeting with Mosley where I expressed my concerns about Fernando’s situation. The « complaints and strange situations » relate to Alonso’s tire pressure in the Chinese qualifying super pole, » he added.

According to some reports, it is believed that Alonso’s tires were at a different pressure in Q3 compared to what they were during the entire weekend.

And, as we know, it was in the very last second of the qualifications that the Spaniard was beaten by his teammate Lewis Hamilton after being faster than the Brit throughout all the practice sessions of the day and the day before.

In the meantime, the FIA indicated that they will appoint an official to ensure that Alonso receives equal treatment in Brazil.

« We can confirm that the FIA is in the process of appointing a special observer for the Brazilian Grand Prix, » a spokesperson announced to Reuters.
