Jamie Green won his second consecutive race at the last 2007 DTM meeting. In Hockenheim, there had to be a champion, and after some slight suspense, it was ultimately Mattias Ekstrom who claimed his second title in the discipline.
Ekstrom, to be crowned, had to finish ahead of his rival, separated by only two points. The Swede, who had secured third place on the starting grid, had a slight advantage, but the Mercedes performed better on the track than the Audis today, making the title quite attainable for Spengler, despite his 7th place in qualifying.
He, however, stayed behind his rival for the entire race and for 4 tenths, he could have overtaken him. Ekstrom played it safe and thus finishes the season in the best possible position in the championship.
Bernd Schneider, who was defending his title this year, finishes 5th – behind the two protagonists.
Timo Scheider, for his part, climbs onto a DTM podium for the first time, despite being the veteran of the field.
Daniel la Rosa, despite starting with a 10-place grid penalty, finishes 10th while Mika Hakkinen can only take 17th place – he had also been penalized.
Vanina Ickx finished last, one lap behind the leaders. The daughter of Jacky Ickx encountered some difficulties during the race but will not give up for her next season.
Alexandre Prémat concluded his 2nd DTM season in 16th place only after losing more than 4 places at the start by going too wide at turn number 1.
In the championship, Grenn manages to snatch the 4th position from Di Resta thanks to his victory while Spengler finishes second by only 3 points. In the constructors’ championship, Audi retains its title.
