The promoters of the first Singapore Grand Prix, which will be held in September next season, have announced that the project is progressing rapidly.

The leaders have indeed chosen the company that will develop the electrical circuit allowing the race to be held almost as if it were daytime. Several major companies were obviously involved, including a French one, but it is ultimately the Italian company Valerio Maioli that will provide the supplementary electrical system.

This decision follows successful lighting trials in Indianapolis earlier in the year and after more in-depth tests—over two days (nights)—at the HTTT circuit of Paul Ricard, in the South of France.

More than 1500 halogen bulbs will be used to provide a light even more natural than in sports stadiums. As a safety measure, which was the main cause of disagreement among the pilots, 24 generators will be ready to operate at any time to replace the main power supply.

« Each generator can power the entire circuit in the event of any kind of electrical problem, » said Valerio Maioli – head of the eponymous company.

The system will be ready to be tested at the beginning of January 2008.
