While the battle on the front lines will be tough to win the driver’s title crown, the German team is comfortably placed in 2nd position in the constructor’s championship.
It was after the removal of all the points from the McLaren team that they were able to move up an additional rank. On the drivers’ side, Heidfeld and Kubica will very likely finish in 5th and 6th place.
It remains for the team the desire to finish the year 2007 on a high note, and this desire is very real…
Nick Heidfeld
« For me, the São Paulo circuit is one of the best in the world. Even though it is also challenging in terms of skill and physical driving. It is a circuit that turns to the left and the right is actually represented by a long curve that really works the neck muscles. »
« Then there is the bumpy surface. The best part in terms of section comes after turn three. Turn five, which is on the right, is one of my favorites. I got my first podium at Interlagos in 2001 after finishing third. It’s something you never forget. »
Robert Kubica
Of course, we are looking forward to this meeting in Brazil. We will do our best. Then everything we will do when we return to Europe for the off-season will be to work for next year.
« The track itself is very bumpy and very tricky. There is a large section after the last corner where last year we lost a lot of speed, especially in the race, so I hope we can do better this year. »
« Although the 2006 race wasn’t bad, I only finished ninth, and this year, I am keen to score points to mark the end of the season. »
Willy Rampf – Technical Director
« The most crucial at Interlagos in terms of sector is the middle one. It requires a lot of downforce, good traction, and balance. Maximum speed is the key for the first and third sector. »
A characteristic of Interlagos that should not be underestimated is the track surface. Even though it has undergone several improvements, the circuit is still quite bumpy. This must be taken into consideration for the mechanics.
« After two fairly mixed Grand Prix races, we want to make a strong impression in our last race and finish a very good season on a positive note. »
Mario Theissen – Director of BMW Motorsport
« As in previous years, Brazil will once again be the final meeting of the season. The driver’s champion was revealed at the last race in 2006. Similarly, this year, we will not know until the end of the GP who will be the 2007 champion. With three candidates competing for the title, fans can expect a thrilling finale. »
The circuit is very varied, as is often the case. The engine is a key element at the start of the circuit, with the main straight being not only long but also sloped. A characteristic of the location is the altitude of São Paulo, which reduces engine power by about eight percent compared to driving at sea level.
« For BMW Sauber F1 Team, it has been a good season. We can be proud of what we have achieved, both in terms of the development of our work during the winter and the pace of development during the season. »
