The Japanese team, after a difficult year, will try to make an impression for the last GP of the season by attempting to score as many points as possible.
In the constructors’ standings, the team, thanks to its points earned in China, has surpassed Super-Aguri and is now focusing all its attention on Toro Rosso, which is just two points ahead.
In the drivers’ standings, Button has scored all the points this season, so it’s up to Barrichello to finish this season on a high note. The native of the country hopes to shine in front of his supporters who will undoubtedly play a big part in the success of the Brazilian.
Jenson Button
« Interlagos is a particularly difficult circuit for drivers because it is one of the only two circuits on this year’s calendar that run counterclockwise. This is very physical, especially for the neck muscles, which are not accustomed to undergoing such pressure on other F1 circuits.
« The track is also bumpy and the key to producing a good lap is having total confidence in your car. The race is often wet, and undoubtedly the biggest challenge is the long left turn No. 3. I had a very good race last year and it would be important for everyone at Honda if we could end this season on a high note. However, in dry race conditions, it remains difficult for us to finish in the points. »
Rubens Barrichello
I was born very close to Interlagos, so this Brazilian Grand Prix means a lot to me and it’s always a very special weekend. I really enjoy the circuit, not only because it’s my home race, but also because there are a lot of good corners and overtaking opportunities.
« The bumpy surface of the track is also very tricky, so the mechanics set up on the car must be very good. We had a difficult year in 2007, but I am looking forward to the race in Brazil and we hope to finish this season on a positive note.
Shuhei Nakamoto – Technical Director
The Chinese Grand Prix was a challenging race due to the weather conditions and our drivers losing ground in the early laps as they battled understeer. We were therefore very happy to recover some valuable points thanks to good strategy and a strong performance from Jenson’s car.
« In anticipation of the final race of the season in Brazil, the main challenge at Interlagos is to find the best possible settings on this bumpy track with its combination of low and high speed corners. I am very proud of the team that has worked very hard this year and we will do our best to finish the season on a positive note. »
