The current leader of the world championship, Lewis Hamilton, is currently being observed by the FIA and race officials of this Brazilian Grand Prix for having violated certain rules concerning the use of tires designed for rain. So many little misunderstandings are happening to the Briton at the end of the season…
But he is not the only one under investigation by the FIA. Indeed, Jenson Button for Honda and Takuma Sato for Super-Aguri are in exactly the same situation tonight.
All three are accused of having used two sets of tires suited for rainy conditions during the first practice session at Interlagos. This constitutes a violation of the regulations governing this sport.
Article 25.3 of the F1 regulations states: « No driver may use more than one set of tires suitable for wet conditions and one set reserved for extreme weather conditions during free practice 1 and 2. »
The issue was brought to the attention of Jo Bauer, the FIA technical delegate, and it is not currently known whether or not the drivers involved will face a penalty.
The stewards will probably look into the matter after the end of this first day in Interlagos, which concludes with the second free practice session.
More information in the evening or tomorrow.
