Rubens Barrichello will line up on the sixth row of the grid tomorrow for his home race after having one of his best qualifying sessions of the year.
His day got off to a positive start when he placed sixth this morning during the third practice session. This gave him a crucial boost for qualifying. He finished the afternoon in 11th position after missing the 10th and thus the super pole by less than 0.05s.
His teammate Jenson Button had more difficulties and finished the day in 16th place.
Rubens Barrichello – 6th and 11th
« I am currently very happy with my weekend at home, but at the same time a bit disappointed because we couldn’t qualify for Q1 and we just missed it. The car worked very well this morning, but this afternoon, the rear was sliding a bit too much due to low grip. »
« It is for this reason that we lost a bit of time. We are all satisfied with the car today and I think we can have a good race starting from 11th place. »
Jenson Button – 13th and 16th
« Not a great qualifying session for me today, which reflects the fact that we have been off the pace pretty much all weekend. The car lacks grip, and unfortunately, we haven’t been able to improve the car’s setup to solve this issue. »
It will be a difficult race because I am starting from 16th position. Let’s wait and see what possibilities present themselves tomorrow during the race.
Jacky Eeckelaert – Technical Director
« This morning, we were able to work on the car’s balance in dry conditions and on the tire option. Rubens was immediately satisfied with his car, while Jenson was unable to find a good balance. During qualifying, it is disappointing for Rubens to miss out on the 10th place which means participation in the super pole and to find Jenson still struggling with his car’s balance. »
« The warmer ambient temperatures in the afternoon affected the car’s balance a bit more than we had anticipated. But we will strive to find a strategy that gives us the best chances for the last race of the season. »
