The race could only turn out this way for Spyker, concluding a disastrous weekend. After not moving from the 21st and 22nd places during practice and qualifying, both drivers retired.

Sakon Yamamoto was involved in an incident on the second lap with Giancarlo Fisichella, which caused irreparable damage to the car.

Adrian Sutil got off to a good start in his GP and was holding his own against local hero Rubens Barrichello. However, a collision with Davidson’s Super-Aguri on the 16th lap caused significant damage to his car. Although the German was able to continue fighting for a while, his ordeal came to an end on lap 43 with retirement.

Adrian Sutil – retirement

« At the beginning, the race was good, I could fight at the same level as other cars, but there was the accident just after my first stop. I tried to brake but in vain, Davidson was there and the collision was certain. I was able to continue because the car was ok, but then I started to lose brake pressure. »

We were unable to repair it, which ultimately led us to decide to withdraw the car. It was a disappointing way to end the season, but now we have to look towards the future.

Sakon Yamamoto – retirement

« This is a very bad result for me because the car setup and strategy were good. I really expected to have a better race, but unfortunately, at the beginning of lap two, Fisichella went off and when coming back onto the track, I couldn’t avoid him. It’s a strange situation because normally, when you come back onto the track, you try to avoid immediately returning to the racing line. I couldn’t do anything. »

It’s really a bad situation because I wanted to have a good race. But thanks to everyone who supported me this year, I had a great year, I thank all the team members. Now I will look to the future and I will try to give my best.

Mike Gascoyne – Technical Director

A disappointing end to the year. We were hoping to have two cars at the finish, but this race quite sums up our season. Both cars sustained damage from accidents. Yamamoto with Fisichella and Sutil with Davidson. The damage to Yamamoto’s car was too severe, and Sutil’s brakes didn’t hold up until the end of the race.

« A disappointing conclusion to a difficult year, but I would like to say thank you to all our partners, especially Ferrari. Rui De Castro and his team have been incredibly hardworking and professional, and thanks also to Bridgestone. But most of all, thank you to all the team members, who under difficult circumstances did a fantastic job. I am very proud of them and with our new owners, I think we can look forward to doing something much, much better next year.
