McLaren Mercedes boss Ron Dennis said that the future of Fernando Alonso within his team will be resolved in about two weeks.
Alonso had a very difficult relationship with Dennis this season, and rumors said that the Spanish driver would not spend another year with the British team.
Dennis has stated for several months that the issue would only be resolved after the end of the season, and he has now set a timeline for resolving this problem.
« The issue of the drivers is one that we have consistently said throughout this year that we will address after the end of the season, » he told reporters in Interlagos.
« And it will be addressed over the next two weeks, » added Dennis.
He criticized the Internet for frequently spreading unverified information to increase tensions between Alonso and the team. He also admitted that McLaren struggled to cope with the demands of the media in 2007.
« I have often said, the Internet has been the scourge of our lives. It is an uncontrollable source of information that then echoes rumors in the media, » denounced the head of McLaren.
« Of course, I do not criticize all media. They just make situations difficult because they focus on immediacy. You spend too much time trying to correct inaccuracies that enter the system. It puts pressure on the team. »
But we are not saying that this pressure had anything to do with the fact that we had this problem (Hamilton’s gearbox issue) in Brazil.
« I think the team has handled the pressure very well this season, and I wouldn’t attribute any of our problems on the track to this media-induced pressure, » concluded Dennis.
