Bernie Ecclestone has revived the idea of organizing a Grand Prix on the streets of London, stating that this ambitious project is not dead.

A race through the streets of the English capital was launched in 2004 following the enormous success of the F1 car event in the streets.

Ecclestone makes no secret of his desire to see such a Grand Prix in the near future, but admitted that the projected costs to organize such an event were too high and seemed to have fallen through earlier this year.

However, after a season in which Lewis Hamilton generated genuine excitement for F1 in Great Britain, Ecclestone indicated that this event could still happen if the necessary money was found.

« It would be great if we could do it, » said Ecclestone in the London’s Evening newspaper.

« The idea is not dead. »

He added that if a race in London were not to materialize, then an argument to tip the balance the other way would be to follow what the city of Singapore has done.

Indeed, a night race through the streets of London, therefore on the European continent, would be a strong argument. The Grand Prix would thus be broadcast in prime time and would ultimately reach a wider audience.

« If they can do it, then we should be able to do it too, » he concluded.

This idea would undoubtedly be welcome because for several months the British Grand Prix held at the Silverstone circuit has been subject to strong criticism and rumors regarding the emergence of new Asian circuits.
