The FIA World Council on October 24 confirmed the official calendar for the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship season: the French Grand Prix will be held on June 22 at the Nevers Magny-Cours circuit. As in the past four years, the Fédération Française du Sport Automobile will ensure the promotion and organization of the event.
The launch system for the 2008 French Grand Prix is ready. On the afternoon of Thursday, October 25, the purchase system will be operational online (www.gpfrancef1.com) and via the telephone reservation center (0 892 70 47 47 – €0.34 incl. tax/min).
True to its pricing policy that has made the French Grand Prix one of the cheapest Grand Prix in Europe, the FFSA has decided to keep the public ticket prices for 2008 the same as the 2007 edition. This freeze on ticket prices should allow more people to discover or rediscover the fantastic world of Formula 1.
Access to the Grand Prix of France stands on Sunday remains in 2008 at 30% lower than what it cost in 2003.
In parallel and until March 15, a 10% discount on French GP tickets will be offered to those who want to quickly reserve their spot in the stand of their choice.
Last July, on the freshly redone tarmac, the drivers of the F1 World Championship had a field day, offering the spectators at Magny-Cours fantastic battles. The 2007 French Grand Prix was the turning point of the season, with a Ferrari one-two that reignited the title race. Fernando Alonso was nonetheless the main protagonist of the Grand Prix. The battles he fought against Heidfeld, Kubica, Fisichella will remain among the highlights of the season, and this at all points of a circuit now renowned for the visibility it offers its spectators.
Finally, this 2008 edition will celebrate the arrival of Sébastien Bourdais in Formula 1, as a driver with Scuderia Toro Rosso, marking the return of French drivers to this discipline, even as new young hopes like Romain Grosjean, Champion in Formula 3 Euroseries, successor to Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, emerge.
The French supporters, who will also be able to share the Renault F1 team’s thirst for revenge, have a date on the weekend of June 22nd with what promises to be the national sporting event of the year.
