Sébastien Bourdais, currently a four-time ChampCar titleholder, is certain that his team, Newman / Haas / Lanigan Racing, will remain one of the best teams on the grid in the 2008 season despite his departure.
The Frenchman, who chose to join Formula 1 with Toro Rosso next season, believes that his team deserves much more than simple thanks for the 5 years they spent together.
« When you look into the past, we have achieved great feats together with our four consecutive championship victories. I’ve always said it. This is a winning team. » Commented the man from Le Mans.
« It’s true, no one is irreplaceable. Therefore, I am convinced that Carl [Haas, team director] will be able to find a good driver to replace me. »
The young 28-year-old driver, who will be starting a new life soon, adds that his team, with all the experience it has, will be fully capable of replacing him with a future star.
« There is no need to have a ‘Sébastien Bourdais’. I am sure the team will be able to find someone else who can replace me just as well and build a new group to start a new adventure. » Concluded the Frenchman, who was crowned last weekend at Surfer’s Paradise, Australia.
In 5 years, French has become a true star in the United States. At Toro Rosso, the driver will start from scratch but will want to perform as well as in Champcar.
